What is a Pademelon?
A pademelon is a small to medium-sized marsupial of the genus Thylogale, found living in Australia and some of it's near islands. As you can tell from the picture, the pademelon is most closely related to the wallaby and the kangaroo. They are the smallest of the macropods. There are 7 different species of pademelon and the population of all the species is decreasing primarily because of hunting and habitat loss. The pademelon is a solitary and nocturnal animal, meaning that they spend the light day hours resting and in the night go foraging for food. The pademelon is usually found around the coastal areas of Australia and Papua New Guinea, also found in forests or shrublands. The name is a corruption of badimaliyan, from the Dharuk Aboriginal language of Port Jackson.
